The formatted citation should be presented in PubMed tagged field format (or similar) that can be incorporated into a reference manager. EndNote supports two appropriate content types, 'web page' and 'electronic article', although in the latter case we would be stretching the idea of an electronic journal to include Scratchpads.
It would be really useful if the user could identify the taxon of an image in a panel. For example, in the dungbeetle site I was looking for a nice panels page for illustration. I kept getting empty hits on the classification, so I clicked on 'Coleoptera' and got a bunch of nice images in the panel. Unfortunately I couldn't home in on them because I didn't know what they were.
There is also a need to be able to carry image meta-data, particularly attribution information, with the image on download.
The present system allows only a few taxonomy links to be built. I suspect that there is a character limit to the auto-complete box. The auto-complete box is the only practical method to work with a moderately large taxonomy. We really need a better method than this and it adds to the need for the auto-tag function. The keywords field in the publication node is of limited size, so needs to be an expanded text box for monographic publications. Note that the information is there, so highlight all and copy will bring the whole list onto the clipboard.
